For My Country: Black Canadians on the Field of Honour
Ministry of National Defence, 2004, 52pp
Throughout Canada's history, since early colonial times, black Canadians have taken their places on the field of honour with their compatriots. They have proundly assisted in the defence of the nation in great wars and small,in foreign countries and on Canadian soil. Canadians of African origin fought in the War of 1812, stood firm against rebellion in 1837 and defended Canada's borders against the Fenian invaders in 1866. They served, as they continue to do, with the Canadian Forces throughout the world in the defence of freedom. They were there with other Canadians and our allies in Europe in the two world wars and in the Korean War. They were, and are, there in peacekeeping and peacemaking missions around the world. They have won glory and they have won honour carrying out their duty as soldiers, sailors and airmen, as brave and patriotic men and women do. No less than other loyal Canadians, they defended their country when needed, they did their part to fight tyranny and they contributed to peace around the world.
